Hello and welcome! My name is Hugo Moreira.
I am the content strategist and content writer for Myopia Daily.
I have 6 years of experience in the world of content strategy and creation. I specialize in medical copywriting and advanced research methodologies. This means I go above and beyond to bring you the most recent medically accurate and fact-checked information.
My commitment to writing fact-driven eye health content comes from my belief that this type of information can empower any person to take action and improve their eye health today. This includes simplifying the language used to talk about eye health, so topics like nearsightedness or vision surgery are both digestible and friendly to anyone who wants to live and feel better.
The topic of myopia (also known as nearsightedness) is one that is very close to my heart. It’s a condition that I’ve had to deal with since I was a child. I got my first pair of glasses to correct myopia when I was 8 years old, and have been wearing corrective lenses since then. This means the articles I write are not only backed up by rigorous science but also by my everyday expertise and personal experience dealing with eye health for over 20 years.
The number of myopes worldwide is rising so much that the American Academy of Ophthalmology considers myopia an epidemic. It’s estimated that by 2050, half of the entire world population will have myopia. This is very alarming, as myopia (especially high myopia) is associated with a higher risk of developing serious eye conditions that can lead to blindness.
With that in mind, my goal for this blog is to create content that educates you and gives you the knowledge needed to prevent problems and have awesome eye health. I aim to bring optometry to everyone by covering everything about nearsightedness using simple terms.
My writing is inspired by fieldwork with people from communities around the globe and backed by extensive expert-backed medical research. I have extremely strict sourcing guidelines and only cite from the most respected sources, including:
- Up-to-date scientific research
- Peer-reviewed medical journals
- Scholarly articles
- Government agencies
- Certified optometry websites
- Up-to-date textbooks
Based on these sources, every single article in Myopia Daily is medically reviewed and fact-checked to ensure the information is factual and meets industry standards. Every article contains links that give you access to the science that backs up what is written.
Once again, welcome! And thank you for joining me! I hope I can accomplish my mission by empowering you with the knowledge and resources you need to have healthy eyes and promote equal access to care and knowledge.
I will post daily about anything and everything related to myopia. Stick around and follow me on the journey!
